Rockford currently holds the lead in the Illinois Lottery Cup series with a 2-0-1-0 (5 pts) record against their intrastate rival. The last time they met, the IceHogs five-game road winning streak was snapped by the Wolves in an overtime thriller by a score of 4-3, giving Chicago their only win over Rockford this season. The contest also accounted for the most penalty minutes the IceHogs have accumulated in a single game with 95 PIM, along with the most minutes combined between the Hogs and their opponent with 132 PIM.
Since then, Rockford and Chicago have both fallen to Central Division opponents. The Milwaukee Admirals handed the Wolves a 4-1 loss two days after defeating the IceHogs 2-1 in a shootout. Similarly, Rockford fell to the Iowa Wild 3-1 only a day after Iowa topped Chicago 2-1.
Both teams are looking to bounce back from recent slumps. The IceHogs, who currently sit at second place in the Central Division, will be looking to their scoring leader in Jeremy Morin (9g-11a-20 pts) to help get the team back on track.
Next Home Game: Jan. 3 vs. Milwaukee Admirals at 4 pm. The first 2,500 in the gates will receive a pack of Rockford IceHogs trading cards compliments of the Rockford Register Star. After the game, the team will host a postgame skate where fans can skate with their favorite IceHogs on the BMO Harris Bank Center ice.
