Arrowhead Captures Admirals Cup
December 30, 2015 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Milwaukee Admirals News Release
Milwaukee, WI - A second period power-play goal by junior forward Caleb Beversdorf proved to be the difference as the Hartland Arrowhead Warhawks topped the Cedarburg Bulldogs 1-0 Tuesday afternoon to clinch the 2015 Admirals Cup Title.
Arrowhead, who is coached by Admirals alum Carl Valimont, cruised through the tournament without allowing a goal, topping Homestead 2-0 in the first round and blanking Marquette High 4-0 in round two before their whitewash of Cedarberg today.
Early in the second period things were going Cedarburg's way as the Bulldogs had a five minute power-play thanks to a boarding major to Arrowhead. However, two consecutive minor penalties on Cedarburg created a 4-on-3 chance for the Warhawks and they took advantage when Beversdorf redirected a shot by Braden Steger from the right circle and by Cedarburg goalie Matt McCoy.
Arrowhead goalie Aaron Nicholson tallied the shutout, stopping all 15 shots he saw. McCoy performed marvelously in net for Cedarburg, stopping 53 shots in the game, including 23 in the second period alone.
The Admirals Cup, presented by Bradley Corporation, features eight of the top high school hockey programs in the state for a showcase style tournament where all teams play at one game at the BMO Harris Bradley Center. This is the ninth year of the Admirals Cup.
