Penguins Bested by Bears

HERSHEY, Pa. - Hershey goaltender Braden Holtby made 33 saves for his fourth shutout of the season as the Bears blanked the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, 2-0, at GIANT Center. With the win, the Bears pulled ahead of the Penguins into third place in the East Division.
Hershey went up, 1-0, just 3:56 into the contest as Ryan Potulny picked off an outlet pass in the Penguins zone, unleashed a slapshot before Garrett Mitchell put in the rebound.
The Penguins would enjoy six power plays the rest of the way and outshoot the Bears 20-8 over the final two periods, but could not get the puck past Holtby.
As Wilkes-Barre/Scranton skated with the empty net late in the contest looking to the tie the score, Jeff Taffe intercepted the puck along the wall and shot it into the open cage with 47.1 seconds left in regulation.
Penguins goalie Jeff Zatkoff took the loss with 18 saves on 19 shots. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton went 5-for-5 on the penalty kill.
The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins return to Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza on Thursday, December 27 for the second game of their home-and-home series against the Hershey Bears.
