Admirals Cup Day 1 Recap
December 26, 2012 - American Hockey League (AHL) - Milwaukee Admirals News Release
Hartland, WI-Hartland Arrowhead, WNS, Stoughton and Cedarburg all won their opening games to advance to the second round of the seventh annual Admirals Cup, presented by Bradley Corporation, Wednesday afternoon at the Mullett Center.
Certainly the biggest upset of the day came in the first game as eighth-seeded Arrowhead beat two-time defending tournament champions and top-seeded Marquette University High School 5-2. Jake Miller and Nick Peterson each scored a pair of goals to lead the Warhawks attack.
In game two enior forward Djordje Torbica scored a hat trick to help lead the WNS (Whitefish Bay-Shorewood-Nicolet) Storm to a 4-1 win over Sheboygan in physical match-up. Red Raiders goalie Cameron Scheuren stopped 36 shots, but still suffered the loss.
Game three saw first-time Admirals Cup participant Stoughton take a 4-1 victory over Germantown. Senior forward Chris Mill scored a pair of first period goals to spark the Vikings to the win.
Cedarburg's Nick Martin scored the day's second hat trick and Mason Etter tallied a pair of goals to lead the Bulldogs to a 6-3 come-from-behind victory over Mequon Homestead. Cedarburg trailed 2-0 early in the second, but scored six of the game's next seven goals to secure the win.
Day two of the Admirals Cup continues on Thursday with Arrowhead battling WNS and Stoughton taking on Cedarburg in the winner's bracket. Those games will be played at 11 am and 1 pm, respectively, at the Mullet Center. In the losers bracket Marquette will play Sheboygan and Germantown faces-off against Homestead. Each of those contests will be played at the BMO Harris Bradley Center beginning at 12:06 pm.
The championship game will take place at the BMO Harris BC on Friday afternoon at 2:46 pm.
All games the Admirals Cup are free of charge.
The Admirals return to the BMO Harris Bradley Center for back-to-back games against the Peoria Rivermen on Thursday, December 27th and Friday, December 28th at 7:00 pm.
