
Penalties Prove Costly in 6-2 Defeat

Middleton, WI - Three power play goals led the way for the Green Bay Gamblers in a 6-2 victory over the Madison Capitols on Friday night in front of a sold out crowd at Bob Suter's Capitol Ice Arena. The Gamblers also took a 5-2 lead in the Odyssey Brands Wisconsin Cheese Cup with the victory.
Ryan Kirwan opened the scoring with his 21st goal of the season, putting home a Jack Horbach rebound for the 1-0 lead only 2:56 into the opening frame.
Green Bay got hot and picked up three unanswered goals courtesy of Ryan O'Reilly, Camden Thiesing, and Jarrett Lee.
Stepan Pokorny cut the deficit back down to one with his 10th of the year. Carson Bantle fired a shot that Pokorny picked up and snapped past netminder, Nicholas Grabko,
Again, Green Bay netted three unanswered thanks to two from Kyler Grundy before Ryan Greene tallied his first career USHL goal to seal the deal.
The Gamblers power play finished the night three of six, while the Capitols power play couldn't find twine on six chances of their own.
Christian Stoever made 35 saves on the night, but it wasn't enough in the loss.
The Capitols return to action on Saturday, February 22nd when they host the Gamblers for their annual Be The Miracle Game in honor of the 40th anniversary of the Miracle on Ice. Madison will be wearing replica USA jerseys, while Green Bay will don the red Russian jerseys from the game. First 1,000 fans also get a free Herb Brooks bobblehead.
