Penalties, Ohrvall Take Down Stars in Waterloo

WATERLOO, IA-On a frosty Saturday evening in Iowa, the Stars hit the road to take on the Black Hawks in their first meeting since last spring. With both teams looking to come back from one-goal losses on Friday, the stage was set for two motivated teams out of the gate.
The Stars started fast, out-shooting the Black Hawks 7-2 over the first 10 minutes of play. Lincoln was rewarded on the power play at 6:18 when Justin Lee and Shane Pinto combined to find Devlin McCabe for his second tally of the year.
The Black Hawks responded just over two minutes later, after a back-checking Star fell, setting up a two-on-one for Matt Koopman and Emil Ohrvall. The former fed the latter for the score on Waterloo's first shot of the night.
A chippy second half of the frame netted a lot of penalty minutes, but no scores, sending the teams to their rooms tied at one.
Chaos ruled the second. Penalties rained from every part of the ice, leading to a period dominated by special teams. All four of Waterloo's second-period goals came on the power play. Wyatt Schingoethe scored first at 1:06.
Matt Koopman's power play goal to start the third period put the wraps on any chance of a Stars comeback as Waterloo hung on through the period to close the game with a 6-3 win.
