BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Central Illinois Flying Aces defeat the Youngstown Phantoms, 5-2.
Stephen Halliday (Toronto, Ont.) scored for the Flying Aces at 10:57 in the second on the power play. Halliday deftly tipped a shot from Colby Enns (Minot, ND) past the goaltender's blocker. Ryan Siedem (Madison, NJ) also assisted on the goal.
Late in the second, Ryan Snowden (Kennett Square, Penn.) made several stops to preserve the lead for the Aces. Immediately thereafter, the Aces dumped the puck in. The Youngstown goaltender tried to play the puck, but Cal Kiefiuk (Macomb, Mich.) stole the puck and backhanded it to the front of the net where Max Ellis (Canton, Mich.) put it into the wide open net at 16:40 in the second.
Sixty-four seconds later, Lynden Breen (Grand Bay-Westfield, NB) was on the forecheck and stole the puck from behind the net and powered past two Youngstown defenders to slip the puck over the goaltender's right pad to make it 3-0 for the Aces.
At 6:53 in the third, Trevor Kuntar backhanded the puck over the Central Illinois goaltender's left shoulder to get the Phantoms on the board.
Josh DeLuca scored for Youngstown at 10:01 in the third to decrease the Aces lead to one. Snowden made several initial stops, but could not get over through the traffic in the crease to stop DeLuca's shot.
Kiefiuk iced the game with an empty net goal. Enns and Brad Marek (Big Rapids, Mich.) assisted on the goal at 18:40 in the third. Jeremy Davidson (Schoolcraft, Mich.) scored the second empty net goal to make it a final score of five to two. Marek assisted on that goal as well.
Snowden backstopped Central Illinois to victory, stopping 34 of 36 shots.
Central Illinois is on the road for a Thanksgiving Eve match-up against Green Bay on November 21 before returning home to face projected 2019 NHL draft first overall pick, Jack Hughes, and the Team USA Under-18 Team on November 23.
