Swift Current Broncos News Release
Lethbridge, Alta. - The Swift Current Broncos point streak ends at four games after a 5-3 loss to the Lethbridge Hurricanes on Friday night in Lethbridge.
The Broncos penalty kill struggled in the hockey game as they gave up goals on four of five Hurricane powerplays. Broncos Interim Head Coach Taras McEwen said they need to be better down a man.
"We were the better team five-on-five, we generated more, had more chances," McEwen said. "Take too many penalties and we can't kill a penalty."
Kooper Gizowski made it 1-0 on the man advantage in the first before Caleb Wyrostok tied the game and things were tied after one. However, two more powerplay goals for the Hurricanes made it 3-1 in the second as Miguel Marques and Leo Braillard made it 3-1. The Broncos would start turning the ice back in their favour when things were five-on-five as they were able to tie the game before the end of the second period. A Connor Hvidston powerplay goal was followed by a Josh Filmon goal got it back to 3-3 heading into the final frame.
In the third, the Hurricanes were forced to swap netminders as Harrison Meneghin left the game, making way for Brady Smith in net for the Hurricanes. The Hurricanes gave their netminder some help as Logan McCutcheon scored a powerplay goal less than a minute into the third. However, the Broncos would get plenty of looks on Smith in the third, outshooting the Hurricanes 13-9, but couldn't get one to go. Trae Wilkie got the insurance marker for the Hurricanes about 12 minutes into the third to make it 5-3.
The Broncos now fall to 14-12-1-2 on the year and welcome the Hurricanes to the InnvoationPlex tomorrow for the back half of this home and home.
