Swift Current Broncos News Release
Swift Current, Sask. - The Swift Current Broncos earned a big 3-1 win over the Lethbridge Hurricanes on Saturday night, splitting the home and home set with their Central Division rivals.
It wasn't as high of an event game as the previous 5-3 game indicated, as the teams only combined for 46 shots in the hockey game.
Luke Mistelbacher scored once in the second and once in the third, his first career two goal game to give the Broncos the 2-0 lead through 40 minutes of play. Logan Wormald would get the Hurricanes on the board early in the third period, but the Broncos would hold it down afterwards.
Broncos Interim Head Coach Taras McEwen said he was very happy with the defensive prowess of his club to help out Matthew Kieper in net who stopped 20 of 21 shots.
"I just liked how quick we were able to kill plays in our defensive zone," McEwen said. "We didn't allow them to get a lot of sustained offensive zone time, so we just wanted to kill plays and transition and try and go up ice as quick as we can."
Another major difference from a night ago was a perfect penalty kill on Saturday night for the Broncos, as opposed to a 1-for-5 penalty kill on Friday.
"We obviously put a lot of focus into it here this morning in our video," McEwen said. "Just thought we did a better job of taking that time and space away, and blocking shots when we needed to."
The Broncos now improve to 15-12-1-2 on the year and will head to Alberta to wrap up their pre-Christmas schedule next week.
