Pelicans Win in Extras, 2-1

Bo Brown's walk-off single propelled the Pensacola Pelicans to a 2-1 13th inning victory over the El Paso Diablos on Friday night from Pelican Park.

El Paso got to the scoreboard in the top of the first. Kory Drew hammered an RBI double to the left field gap scoring Albenis Machado for the 1-0 lead.

The Pelicans tied up the contest in the bottom of the second. Robbie Wachman loaded the bases as he allowed two singles and a walk. Wachman then threw a wild pitch which allowed Trino Aguilar to cross the dish tieing up the game at one.

The game would be knotted up at one for the next 11 innings. The Diablos would strand runners in scoring position in the 12th and 13th innings.

Julio Frietes came into pitch the bottom of the 13th inning. Ricardo Cordova led off the frame with a walk. The next batter Napolean Calzado hit a grounder to second which Joel Izquierdo misplayed, allowing Cordova to move to second and Calzado to reach on the error. Frietes struck out Marcos Rodriguez for the first out. Cordova would steal third base during the at-bat, putting the winning run just ninety feet away. Frietes would then intentionally walk Trino Aguilar to load the bases. Bo Brown was brought in as a pinch hitter and came through as he blasted a single to left field playing Cordova for the walk-off victory.

Robbie Wachman threw six innings allowing one earned run off of six hits with two walks and four strikeouts.

Andrew Edwards threw six full allowing one earned run off of four hits with one walk and 11 strikeouts.

Chris Thompson (4-2) picks up the victory as he lasted three innings allowing no runs off of one hit with two walks and five strikeouts.

Dustin Cameron and Justin Knoff combined for six innings of scoreless relief. The Diablos are now 8-5 in extra inning games.

The Diablos and the Pelicans will face off for the fifth time in a row on Saturday night at 5:35 PM MST. Josh Neitz will match up against Colin Young in the game. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN Radio 1380 as well as at www.diablos.com with Jon Barr on the call.
