Tsamis Sets Wins Record in 8-3 Victory

ST. PAUL, MN (July 27, 2007) - St. Paul Saints manager George Tsamis has had some great teams during his time in St. Paul and on Friday night he became the all-time leader in wins as a Saints manager with win 265 in an 8-3 victory over the Sioux City Explorers at Midway Stadium in front 6,259.

Everything went the right way for the Saints scoring two runs in the first inning when Scooter Jordan led off with a single to right. With one out Adam Olow walked. The Saints pulled off a double steal and Marcel Longmire singled home Jordan. Brian Sprout followed with a sac fly making it 2-0.

With the score 2-1 in the bottom of the third Adam Bourassa reached on an error and Olow followed with a two-run homer making it 4-1. Longmire doubled and was balked to third. He scored on a single by Sprout.

The Saints added two more in the fourth on a two-run homer from Alex Fonseca, his fourth of the season, giving the Saints a 7-1 lead.

Saints starter Brian Whinnery was solid going 8.0 innings allowing two runs on eight hits while walking two and striking out two, picking up his sixth win of the season.

The win puts the Saints 2.0 games up in the Northern Division over the Explorers. Tsamis' record with the Saints is now 265-181. He reached the wins mark in 64 less games than the man who held the previous record, Marty Scott.

The Saints go for the series sweep Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. The Saints send RHP Justin Lord (2-2, 2.60) to the mound while the Explorers are TBA. The game can be seen on KSTC-TV, Channel 45 and heard on KBGY 107.5 FM. It is Baseball and Bullseyes presented by Flex Fletch with the National Archery in the Schools Program.
