Pensacola Pelicans News Release
An over capacity crowd of 2,838 received four innings of free baseball tonight in Pensacola as the Pels topped the El Paso Diablos in the bottom of the 13th inning.
In the first inning, El Paso took an early 1-0 lead. Albenis Machado walked to lead off the game and quickly came around to score when the next better Kory Drew doubled.
Pensacola tied the game in the 2nd inning when with the bases loaded, Trino Aguilar scored off a wild pitch.
Between innings three and 12, it was all pitching and defense on both sides of the field.
Pelicans starting pitcher Drew Edwards threw a solid 6 innings while striking out 11. In total, Pensacola pitchers combined to strikeout 19 El Paso batters.
In the bottom of the 13th, Pensacola got their break and capitalized on El Paso's only error of the game. Ricardo Cordova walked and advanced to second when the Diablos shortstop booted a Napleon Calzado ground ball. Trino Aguilar was later intentionally walked to load the bases for pinch-hitter Bo Brown. With a 1-2 count, Brown, from Pensacola, drove the ball deep to left-center to score the winning run. This was Brown's second game winning hit of the season.
