Pensacola Pelicans News Release

Beginning today and running through Sunday, the Pensacola Pelicans and University of West Florida Baseball are hosting the "U18 Summer Showcase Tournament."

Twelve teams from Alabama, Georgia, and Florida are competing in the double-elimination tournament held at Pelican Park at the University of West Florida and the Pensacola Jr. College baseball field.

For this 12-team tournament, nearly 500 players, coaches, family members, and scouts will travel and stay in Pensacola for four days of baseball. In total, the Pensacola economy will benefit nearly $100,000 from hotel, food, and entertainment from this four-day event.

"We are proud to partner with UWF to host a tournament that brings out-of-town teams to play in Pensacola," said Pelicans general manager Talmadge Nunnari. "Teams are accustomed to traveling 300 to 600 miles to play in a tournament, there is no reason Pensacola shouldn't be one of their stops."

With the launch of the Pelicans Training Academy, the Pelicans will be hosting several baseball and softball tournaments each year that encompasses several different age groups.

For more information on the Pelicans Training Academy and upcoming clinics and tournaments, contact the Pelicans front office at 850-934-8444.
