Pensacola Pelicans News Release

(Pensacola, FL) --- The Southeastern League has altered the format for the opening round of this weekend's opening round playoff series.

Instead of one team traveling for one game on Friday, the league is now allowing the higher seed to host the entire three-game series.

The Pelicans, the top seed in the four-team tournament, will host a team to be determined Friday, Saturday and Sunday (if needed). The first two games are scheduled for 7:05 p.m., while Sunday's game (if needed) is slated for 5:05 p.m.

"This will avoid lengthy trips after Friday's game, as well as allow scouts the opportunity to see more games without traveling outside their regional areas," League Commissioner James Gamble said in a press release. "We have contacted many of the major league scouts and they feel that this format better suits the players."

Pensacola's opponent, as of Tuesday, is yet to be determined. The most likely opponent is Macon, who took two of three from the Pelicans over the weekend. Macon needs only one win in their next three or for Houma to lose one of its last three to clinch the fourth seed. Second place Baton Rouge leads Montgomery by a game and a half with three to play.

The best-of-5 championship series starts August 19.
