Coastal Bend Aviators News Release
Robstown, Texas â After an hour and forty minute rain delay, Coastal Bend's grounds crew labored to make the field playable for the Central League Western Division's top two teams to go head-to-head in the first of a three-game-series at Aviators Stadium. After the action started, Mike Smith kept the Roadrunner hitless through five innings, striking out seven and walking only two to pick up the win for Coastal Bend and raise his record to 9-4. Timothy Vasquez gave up a run in the bottom of the seventh for Edinburg, taking the loss and dropping his record to 1-5.
Scoreless through five and a half innings, Carlos Adolfo broke it open in the bottom of the sixth when he started the inning off with a solo homerun to put Coastal Bend up 1-0. Edinburg tied the game at one a piece in the top of the seventh when Anthony Angel led off the inning with a stand up double, advanced to third on a ground out by William Roland and scored on a single by Vincent Moore. The score remained 1-1 until the bottom of the eighth when Matt Mann tripled to start the Coastal Bend rally. Cris Colon earned the Fermin's Player of the Game award when he smacked a single up the middle to score Mann and give the Aviators the 2-1 lead. Rob Elias pitched a scoreless top of the ninth for the Aviators, picking up his forth save.
The Aviators play game two of the three-game-series tomorrow night at Aviators Stadium. Coastal Bend's starter is yet to be determined. Ryan Harris (8-2) will get the call for the Roadrunners. Game time is 7:05 p.m.
