Pensacola Pelicans News Release

(Pensacola, FL) --- The Pensacola Pelicans scored three runs in the bottom of the first to beat the Montgomery Wings 4-2 in game two of a doubleheader Monday night at Pelican Park. Montgomery won the opener 7-5.

Buck Harrison, who went 2-for-3 in the nightcap, singled in the bottom of the first to score Mick Mockabee, who also singled. Nate Nelson's two-run double scored Erik Smallwood and Blair Bourque, who both walked, to make it 3-0.

Montgomery scored a single run off Dan Stillman in the third before the Pelicans added another run in the fourth. Mockabee, who reached base three times, hit into a fielder's choice and scored on a two-out double by Smallwood.

The Wings added another run in the sixth, but couldn't get any more off of Stillman (3-0), or James Gregg, who pitched the seventh for his third save. Stillman allowed six hits in six innings, while striking out three.

The Pelicans blew an early lead for the second straight game in the opener, giving up five runs in the top of the third. The Wings took advantage of three walks from Bradley Bishop in the decisive third inning, as well as two Pelican errors and only one base hit.

Montgomery utilized three leadoff walks in the fifth inning off Josh Ring before a sac fly made it a 6-4 game. Pensacola got a sac fly of its own by Harrison in the bottom of the fifth to score Donaldson to pull within one.

But Montgomery would tack on an insurance run in the sixth on a double and a sac fly.

Ring pitched the final three innings for the Pelicans, who left runners on base in five of their seven innings. He walked four and struck out three, while allowing only two hits.

Michael Silva and Mark Ford both had two hits for the Pelicans, who host Montgomery in another doubleheader today, starting at 4:30.
