Pensacola Pelicans News Release

(Pensacola, FL) --- Bubba Dobson and James Gregg combined for a 1-hitter Tuesday as the Pensacola Pelicans blanked the Montgomery Wings 5-0 to salvage their second doubleheader split with the Wings in as many days. Montgomery beat Pensacola 2-0 in the first game.

After a 49-minute weather delay before game one, the action was lightning-fast once it started. Game one was 1 hour, 58 minutes, while the nightcap went 1 hour, 56 minutes.

Pensacola took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Nick Mockabee drew a leadoff walk, moved to second on a Nelson Samboy walk and scored when Buck Harrison reached on a fielding error.

The Pelicans tacked on two more runs in the fifth and sixth innings. Warren Rivell drew a leadoff walk, stole second and moved to third on a subsequent error and scored on a passed ball before Mockabee walked, moved to second on a passed ball and scored on a single by Erik Smallwood.

Blair Bourque was hit by a pitch in the sixth inning before Michael Silva singled before Rivell reached on another error to score them both.

Dobson struck out three and allowed only one hit in the first six inning, while Gregg struck out one in the seventh.

In the opener, Montgomery scored both runs in the fifth inning off Tony Evans (0-1). Evans gave up two singles to open the inning, the first of which struck him in the back of the leg. A fielder's choice and a single plated one run, while a bases loaded walk scored another.

The game was Evans' first since being hit in his pitching elbow by a line drive last week. He struck out six in five inning, while walking four and giving up four hits. Trey Stephens struck out one in the final two innings.

The Pelicans had six hits in the game and didn't have more than one in any inning. Mockabee had two hits in the loss, while Bourque doubled in the second, Mark Ford singled in the fifth and Harrison singled in the sixth.

The Pelicans close out the regular season tonight at 7:05, with game one of the playoffs starting Friday.
