FREDERICK, MD - Alex "Chi Chi" Gonzalez (2-2) tossed his best outing of the season in shutting down the Keys bats through eight innings and bested Frederick's Parker Bridwell (0-4) in a 4-1 Keys loss on Saturday.

Myrtle Beach (17-10) scored a run in the fifth against Bridwell and three in the seventh against reliever Matt Hobgood to take game three of the four game series. The Pelicans lead the series 2-1 and have defeated the Keys (11-15) in four of the six matchups this season.

After each team threatened in the first inning, neither squad was able to break through until the Pelicans in the fifth. Chris Garia walked with one out, stole second, and came home on an RBI single by Odubel Herrera for a 1-0 Myrtle Beach lead.

Bridwell, who lasted five innings and gave up one earned run on three hits, walked five on the evening and struck out a pair.

In the seventh, Myrtle Beach scored the game-winning run against Hobgood in his second inning of relief. A single by Jorge Alfaro followed by a hit batter planted runners on first and second. After a wild pitch advanced both, Hanser Alberto knocked one through for a two-run single and a 3-0 Pelicans advantage. They would score one more on a Herrera RBI groundout.

Frederick's only run of the game came in the top of the ninth. Adrian Marin, who recorded the only hit of the four through nine batters in the Keys lineup, doubled in Wynston Sawyer against Abel De Los Santos. The Keys had the tying run come to the plate with two on and two outs, but Glynn Davis flied out against Alexander Claudio to finish the game. The Keys left nine stranded on the bases in the game and were 3-for-12 with runners in scoring position.

In the first, Frederick muscled two base hits against Gonzalez and placed runners on the corners with one out, but Creede Simpson bounced into a 6-4-3 double play. In the bottom half, Myrtle Beach loaded the bases against Bridwell, but the Texas native struck out Alfaro to head to the second scoreless.

The Keys didn't record another hit until the sixth against Gonzalez, but they left runners on base in the second and third. The visitors nearly tied it up at one in the sixth inning, as Davis got to first base on a wild pitch by Gonzalez after striking out, and Lucas Herbst singled. A groundball out by Zane Chavez put runners on second and third. The next batter, Creede Simpson, lined out to right field, and Davis tagged from third. The throw by Royce Bolinger was ahead of the slide, but the ball fell out of the glove of Alfaro at home plate and Davis was ruled safe. However, the Pelicans threw down to third base, and Davis was ruled to have left the bag early and Gonzalez escaped the sixth unscathed.

Frederick looks to split the four-game set with a win tomorrow against Myrtle Beach. Game time is 6:05 p.m. and features Keys LHP Matt Taylor (2-1, 1.67) against RHP Sam Wolff (3-2, 2.54).
