WINSTON-SALEM, NC - Winston-Salem scored seven runs in the first two innings and never looked back, cruising to a 9-5 win over the Potomac Nationals at BB&T Ballpark on Saturday night.

Eight Winston-Salem hitters drove in a run, while another group of eight collected at least one hit. As a result, the Dash have now won 19 of the last 23 meetings with Potomac at BB&T Ballpark dating back to the start of the 2012 season. Winston can claim its second series victory with a win in Sunday's 2 p.m. finale with the P-Nats.

The Dash (10-16) did their damage with singles in the first inning. Jacob May stroked a base hit to center field before Joey DeMichele placed a single to left field. Keon Barnum followed with a line drive hit to left field, scoring May and giving Winston-Salem a 1-0 lead.

The Dash poured it on in the second, batting around while producing six runs. Nick Basto opened the frame with a single against Potomac starter Brett Mooneyham (2-2). Martin Medina ripped a hit to left field, placing runners at first and second base. When Michael Johnson attempted a sacrifice bunt, a bad throw by Mooneyham loaded the bases. Mooneyham then walked in two runs with consecutive walks to Adam Heisler and May. A run-scoring groundout by DeMichele made it a 4-0 game. Barnum was clipped by a Mooneyham fastball, forcing the Nationals to go to the bullpen and reliever Brian Dupra.

The inning continued with an RBI fielder's choice by Jason Coats. Grant Buckner's single up the middle increased the Dash advantage to 6-0. With Coats at third base and Buckner at first, Buckner attempted to steal second base, but stopped in the baseline. That allowed Coats to race home from third base before Buckner was tagged out, helping Winston-Salem to a 7-0 lead.

Dash starter Mike Recchia (3-2), who scattered two hits in his first four innings of work, ran into trouble in the fifth against Potomac (15-10). Justin Miller walked before Will Piwnica-Worms singled to right field. Randolph Oduber's scorching triple to left-center scored Miller and Piwnica-Worms before Perez plated Oduber with a single. With that, the Winston-Salem cushion was reduced to 7-3. Otherwise, Recchia was strong for his third victory in five outings this season.

The Dash answered in the bottom-half of the fifth. Basto's single started a two-out rally, with Martin Medina doubling him home. Johnson then doubled to left field, scoring Medina to establish a 9-3 edge.

Winston-Salem was on cruise control until the ninth inning, when the P-Nats made one final flurry. Three consecutive doubles by Cole Leonida, Adrian Sanchez and Justin Miller cut the lead to 9-5, but Oduber's pop out to the first baseman Barnum sealed the win.

Winston-Salem will go for the series win on Sunday, with right-hander J.B. Wendelken (3-1, 3.81 ERA) toeing the rubber against Potomac righty Dakota Bacus (1-1, 2.08 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m., and pregame coverage begins on wsdash.com/broadcast at 1:45. For tickets, visit wsdash.com or call (336) 714-2287.
