WINSTON-SALEM DASH (9-16) vs. POTOMAC NATIONALS (15-9)
RHP Mike Recchia (2-2, 2.95 ERA) vs. LHP Brett Mooneyham (2-1, 3.32 ERA)
7 p.m. - BB&T Ballpark (Winston-Salem, N.C.)
DASH SPOIL THREE-RUN LEAD ON FRIDAY Winston-Salem jumped out to a 3-0 lead through three innings, but Potomac rallied with a pair in the fifth and single tallies in the seventh and eighth to knock off the Dash 4-3 in front of 6,977 fans on Friday night at BB&T Ballpark. Nick Basto brought home Winston's first run with a run-scoring single in the second, and Keon Barnum's two-run blast one inning later ended the scoring for the Dash, who received at least one hit from all nine starters. However, Zach Isler surrendered the final two Potomac runs out of the bullpen for his second loss.
P-NOT IN THIS HOUSE The Dash have dominated Potomac at BB&T Ballpark since the start of the 2012 season. Despite the one-run loss Friday, Winston-Salem boasts an 18-4 (.818) mark against the P-Nats at home, and 10 of those Dash victories have come by one or two runs. Winston-Salem won all 10 home meetings with the Nationals in 2012 before claiming seven of the 10 against the P-Nats a year ago. Since becoming the Dash in 2009, Winston has enjoyed more success against the Nationals than any other club in the Carolina League (62-42, .596).
BARNUM BOMB Dash first baseman Keon Barnum launched his first home run of his High-A career in the third inning on Friday. Barnum needed 86 at-bats to go yard for the first time. It was his ninth long ball at the professional level and his first since August 20, 2013, while with Low-A Kannapolis against Savannah. Barnum is hitting .169 with 11 RBIs thus far this season.
BASTO'S BASE HITS Nick Basto led the way for Winston-Salem with three base hits, which matches a career high for the 20-year-old. This was his seventh game of three hits at the professional level and his second this season (April 6 vs. Wilmington). In four games against Potomac this season, Basto is hitting .500 (7-for-14) with three RBIs.
RECCHIA BALL Winston-Salem starter Mike Recchia has been electric in his last three outings. Recchia has surrendered just two runs (one earned) on eight hits in 18.2 innings of work. During these three efforts, the Worth, Ill., native has whiffed 23 and walked only five. Recchia, who did give up six runs in two and two-thirds innings in his 2014 debut, is fourth in the Carolina League with his 28 strikeouts, and he is the only arm in the top five in that category with only four appearances. This will mark Recchia's first outing against the P-Nats thus far this season.
ANDERSON PLACED ON DISABLED LIST Dash infielder Tim Anderson, a first-round pick last June, was placed on the seven-day disabled list for the first time in his professional career, the White Sox announced Thursday. He hurt his left shoulder in Monday's 11-8 loss at Salem. The Tuscaloosa, Ala., native is hitting .250 (23-for-92) with one homer and six RBIs thus far in 2014. His four triples are tied for the most in the CL, while he shares sixth place on the circuit with 11 extra-base hits.
WHERE'S THE (G)LOVE? The Dash have committed 44 errors thus far in 2014, which places them in a share for third place in the Minors in team errors. The Fort Wayne TinCaps (Low-A, San Diego) of the Midwest League own the top spot with 57. The Dash do own the most unearned runs in all of Minor League Baseball (46), which account for 36 percent of the total runs allowed by the Winston-Salem staff.
DASH DOTS The Dash welcomed their largest home crowd of the season on Friday night when 6,977 fans entered BB&T Ballpark...Justin Jirschele is off to a 3-for-6 start in his first two games of the year...One day after the Southern Division swept the Northern Division, the men from the North returned the favor on Friday...Winston spoiled a three-run lead for the first time on Friday.
