Myrtle Beach Pelicans News Release
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - As Friday the 13th draws closer, the Myrtle Beach Pelicans, Class A Advanced affiliate of the Texas Rangers, and their sister club, the State College Spikes, Short-Season A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates, are set to match wits in the first battle of a new frontier in Minor League Baseball: the Twitter hashtag.
On this year's Freaky Friday, the Pelicans want fans to include the hashtag "#GoPelicans" in as many tweets as they like. State College fans will be tweeting with "#GoSpikes" throughout the day. There is no limit to the number of tweets a fan may submit with their team's hashtag, and each fan who hashtags "#GoPelicans" throughout the day will be entered to win a Pelicans prize pack including four All-You-Can-Eat Deck seats to a Pelicans game in 2011, VIP early entry into that night's contest, the right to throw out a ceremonial first pitch, and a Texas Rangers team-autographed baseball.
All tweets for the contest must occur between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Friday, May 13 and must include "#GoPelicans" to qualify. For every tweet hashtagged with "#GoPelicans," that Twitter follower will receive one entry into the pool for the contest's grand prize. If the Pelicans win the first ever Minor League Baseball Hashtag Battle, the Birds will select one winning fan from their hashtagging followers.
So get to your computers, tablets, mobile devices, or wherever you tweet, and help the Pelicans take down the Spikes on Freaky Friday!
The Pelicans open a six-game homestand Wednesday night with a doubleheader against the Kinston Indians at BB&T Coastal Field and host the Lynchburg Hillcats on Friday night for the first of three games to round out the weekend. Tickets for all Pelicans home games can be purchased by visiting the BB&T Coastal Field Box office, the Tickets page at MyrtleBeachPelicans.com, or by calling (843)918-6000 or (877)918-TIXX.
