WINSTON-SALEM, NC (MAY 11, 2011) - The Winston-Salem Dash announced today that SS Tyler Saladino will join the team. In a corresponding roster move, INF Kyle Shelton was promoted to AA Birmingham

Saladino spent the first part of the 2011 season at extended spring training in Arizona where he was rehabbing an injury he suffered during spring training. While playing in a game with the major league team, Saladino slid into second base and broke his hand.

Saladino is ranked by Baseball America as the 20th-best prospect in the Chicago White Sox organization. He was drafted in the seventh round of the 2010 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of Oral Roberts University, where he was named 2010 Summit League Player of the Year. Saladino hit .379 with 18 home runs and 76 RBI. He led the team in homers, RBI and stolen bases (16). The San Diego native was also named Summit League Newcomer of the Year in 2010. He previously attended Palomar Junior College in southern California, where he hit .453 in 2009 and earned Pacific Coast Conference Player of the Year.

After getting drafted last year, Saladino split time in the White Sox system between Rookie Bristol and low-A Kannapolis. He hit .292 with one home run and six RBI in 13 games with Bristol before his promotion to Kannapolis. He spent the rest of the season with the Intimidators and hit .309 with two home runs and 18 RBI in 47 games.

Shelton moves up to Double-A for the second time this season. He was promoted on April 21 with RHP Tyson Corley, and rejoined the team eight days later. Shelton was riding a five-game hitting streak in his most recent tenure with the Dash. During this home stand he was 8-for-20 with four doubles and three RBI. With Winston-Salem this season, Shelton was hitting .263 with one home run and nine RBI. He played second base, third base and shortstop with the Dash, committing only one error.

Winston-Salem concludes its seven-game home stand Wednesday night at 7 p.m. against Potomac. The Dash have a scheduled off-day Thursday before starting a series against Salem in the Roanoke Valley Friday at 7:05 p.m. Winston returns to BB&T Ballpark Monday, when the team welcomes Myrtle Beach for a 7 p.m. start.
