Pelicans Outlast Keys On Opening Night

runs for the Pelicans including belting his second homerun of the season in the sixth inning. RHP Bobby Bundy got the loss for Frederick despite allowing just one run over four innings in his Carolina League debut.

Neither team scored a run in the first three innings of the game. The Pelicans struck first in the top of the fourth off Bundy. CF Ryan Strausborger singled to centerfield to lead off the inning. After 1B Chris McGuiness reached on an error, 3B Michael Olt singled home Strausborger to give Myrtle Beach the 1-0 lead.

The Pelicans went back to work in the fifth inning. With one out, 2B Santiago Chirino doubled to left. LF Jared Bolden followed up with a RBI single to centerfield to give Myrtle Beach a two-run lead. After a sac bunt, Strausborger capped off the inning with a RBI double to leftfield.

Frederick scored their first runs at Harry Grove Stadium is 2011 on a two-run shot by SS Garabez Rosa. After five innings, the Keys trailed by one, 3-2.

Olt returned the favor to Frederick in the top of sixth when he blasted his second home run of the season.

Trailing by two in the seventh, LF Steve Bumbry made his first Carolina League hit count. With two out and CF Kyle Hudson on second, Bumbry singled to rightfield bringing home Hudson from second.

The Keys were unable to get a run in the final two innings of the game as they fell to the Pelicans, 4-3.

RHP Kenny Moreland struck out five in two scoreless innings of work and RHP Sean Gleason pitched a scoreless ninth inning for Frederick.

Pelicans starting pitcher, Robbie Ross, tossed four scoreless innings allowing just two hits and striking out four.

LHP Joseph Ortiz picked up the win out of the Myrtle Beach bullpen while Bobby Bundy got the loss in his Carolina League debut. RHP Ryan Kelly closed out the game for his second save of the season.

The Keys and Pelicans will play game two of the three-game series on Wednesday night at Harry Grove Stadium. RHP Jacob Rasner will get the start for Frederick while RHP Joe Wieland gets the nod for Myrtle Beach. Wednesday night will be Rasner's Orioles organizational debut.
