
Pelicans Offense Stays Cold in Loss to Hillcats

LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Myrtle Beach Pelicans could not push more than one run across against the Lynchburg Hillcats on Saturday, falling 6-1 from City Stadium.
The Pelicans (15-28) struck first in the second inning against Lynchburg (21-19) starter Matt Solter(2-0). Tyler Payne , who went 2-for-3 on the night with a pair of doubles, ripped his first two-bagger before Aramis Ademan doubled him home to give the Birds a 1-0 lead.
That advantage did not last long as the Hillcats plated two runs in the home half of the first inning. Gavin Collins smacked an RBI double and Jonathan Laureano hit an RBI single to stake Lynchburg to a 2-1 lead off of Erling Moreno (3-5).
In the fourth, the Hillcats added on again with an RBI safety squeeze bunt from Steven Kwan to make it 3-1 Lynchburg.
From then on, Lynchburg was in control, adding a run in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings.
Nolan Jones lined a sixth-inning RBI single, Trenton Brooks scored on a wild pitch in the seventh and Jodd Carter put the finishing touches on the Lynchburg win with a solo homer in the eighth.
The series finale against the Lynchburg Hillcats is at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday. The Pelicans have yet to announce a starter while RHP Justin Garza (3-3, 5.09) for the Hillcats. Coverage starts at 2:45 p.m. on MiLB.tv, MyrtleBeachPelicans.com/Broadcast and the MiLB First Pitch and TuneIn Apps.
