Myrtle Beach Pelicans News Release

A TEN SPOT: Friday night's 10-0 drubbing of the Indians marked a milestone in the Pelicans' first season under the Texas Rangers. In just 14 games, Myrtle Beach achieved its tenth victory of the season and remained a half-game behind the 10-3 Salem Red Sox for first place in the Carolina League Southern Division. The win is an important one for the Pelicans because it provides a stark example of contrast between the club's first season with the Texas organization and its last two years with the Atlanta Braves. In the last two seasons, it has taken the Pelicans until the 30th game of the year to pick up their tenth victory. Two seasons ago, the Pelicans knocked off the Indians 5-1 at Grainger Stadium to move to 10-20 on May 10, and last season, win number ten didn't come until May 9 when the Birds won 2-1 at Lynchburg. The Hillcats are now the Braves' Class A Advanced affiliate and own the circuit's worst record at 2-10.

NO MORE REVOLVING DOOR: Through the first two weeks of the Carolina League season, the Pelicans have had just one transaction involving two players when right-handed Opening Day starter Neil Ramirez was promoted to Triple-A Round Rock on April 13 and righty reliever Andrew Doyle joined the Pelicans from Hickory to take his place. Myrtle Beach's first year under the Texas Rangers stands in stark contrast thus far to the club's last two seasons under the Atlanta Braves in which the Pelicans had nearly 120 player moves in each year including 114 in 2010. By the end of the season's first month last season under the Braves, the Pelicans had had six different transactions involving 12 players.
