Frederick Keys News Release

The Keys could not muster anything offensively until they were down to their final out in game two of a frustrating doubleheader defeat at the hands of the Lynchburg Hillcats. After dropping game one 3-0, the Keys two-out seventh inning rally fell shy in a 2-1 loss in the nightcap.

Frederick has now dropped seven-of-its-last-eight games and has fallen four games under .500 at 5-9.

In the opener the Keys could not get the big hit going 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position. In the second inning, Frederick loaded the bases with one man down but failed to capitalize. Lynchburg would take advantage in the fifth inning when 3B Joe Leonard hit a two-run home run to left field to put the Hillcats atop, 2-0.

In the nightcap the Keys trailed 2-0 into the seventh inning. Keys 2B LJ Hoes doubled amidst a 2-for-3 game to keep the game alive. Next up was 3B Buck Britton who singled off of the glove of Lynchburg first baseman Joseph Terdoslavich scoring Hoes to bring the Keys within 2-1.

After the Keys lifted Britton for pinch-runner Dale Mollenhauer, the potential tying run reached second on a wild pitch. Frederick could not complete the rally however as CF Steve Bumbry struck out swinging to end the game.

Lynchburg has won the first three games of the series after coming to town with a ten-game losing streak.

The Keys look to salvage a game from the Hillcats Sunday, April 24th at 2:00 p.m. It is Sunday Family Funday presented by Dick's Sporting Goods and the Keys will be down on the field signing autographs from 1:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. RHP Bobby Bundy will get the start for Frederick.
