
Pelicans Drop Fourth Straight, Fall 12-5 to Fireflies in Finale

For the third time in their last four games, the Myrtle Beach Pelicans allowed double-digit runs with a 12-5 loss to the Columbia Fireflies on Sunday evening in the series finale. The Pelicans fell to a 2-7 record with their fourth consecutive loss while the Fireflies moved up to 6-3 and won the series with five wins in the six games.
The Birds tallied 11 hits in the loss with Carter Trice (1-4, HR, 3 RBI) driving home three on his first home run of the season in the sixth. Cristian Hernandez (3-5) and Andy Garriola (3-4, 2B, RBI) each posted three-hit performances.
Starter Alfredo Romero (0-2) took the loss after pitching just one inning with six earned runs off five hits and four walks. Scarlyn Lebron allowed three earned runs while getting just two outs out of the bullpen. The Pelicans' pitching staff walked 12 in the loss.
Off another strong offensive performance, the Fireflies were led by Derlin Figueroa (2-3, 3 RBI, BB) with a multi-hit game and three runs brought home. Erick Torress (3-5, BB) smacked three singles from the leadoff spot and Gabriel Silva (1-2, HR, RBI, 3 BB) walked three times and hit a home run in the victory.
Chase Isbell (1-1) pitched two hitless innings out of the bullpen with four strikeouts. Starter Logan Martin lasted three innings with two earned runs off five hits and one walk while fanning three.
The Pelicans return to Myrtle Beach for the series opener on Tuesday night against the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers.
