Myrtle Beach Pelicans News Release
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - Brailyn Marquez dominated in his first High-A start and combined with Ethan Roberts to no-hit the Winston-Salem Dash through 6.1 innings in the Myrtle Beach Pelicans 10-1 win on Tuesday night from TicketReturn.com Field at Pelicans Ballpark.
The Pelicans (23-22, 44-68) dominance on Tuesday started early. Brailyn Marquez (W, 1-0) tossed a 1-2-3 top half of the first inning and struck out a pair to jumpstart what was a brilliant outing for the southpaw.
Marquez tossed five, hitless innings for the Pelicans in his High-A debut and struck out four in the win.
The Pelicans backed Marquez with some offense in the bottom of the second inning. Delvin Zinn led off the inning with a double off of Zach Lewis (L, 5-6) and came in to score on a single from Aramis Ademan that made it 1-0. Later in the inning, Ademan scored on a Grant Fennell RBI single and the Pelicans took a 2-0 lead into the third inning.
In the third, the Pelicans added three more runs to their lead. Ademan and Eric Gonzalez each lined RBI singles to push two runs across and Kevonte Mitchell notched an RBI on a sacrifice fly that made it 5-0 Myrtle Beach.
The Pelicans blew the ballgame wide open in the sixth inning. After the Pelicans loaded the bases with no one out, Miguel Amaya drew a bases loaded walk that made it 6-0. Two batters later, Zinn doubled off the left field wall and drove in three on the play. On the very same play, a throwing error allowed Zinn to come all the way around to score and the little-league homer for Zinn made it 10-0 Pelicans.
Winston-Salem (21-23, 59-49) found the scoreboard in the eighth inning off of Scott Effross . After Effross retired the first two batters without incident, Steele Walker doubled down the right field line and scored on a bloop single from Andrew Vaughn that made it 10-1.
The Pelicans and Dash will play game two of the three game series on Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. RHP Javier Assad (3-8, 3.79) will take the hill for the Pelicans against RHP Jorgan Cavanerio (7-1, 2.95) for the Dash. Coverage will begin at 6:50 p.m. on MiLB.tv and on the Pelicans Baseball Network which is available on the TuneIn App, MyrtleBeachPelicans.com/Broadcast and MiLB First Pitch app.
Wednesday will be a Weiner Wednesday presented by WPDE.
