Pelicans continue road trip in Texas

June 1, 2006 - American Association (AA)
Pensacola Pelicans News Release

The Pelicans come into this series against El Paso in sole possession of third place in the American Association's Southern Division. The Pelicans have won eight of their last ten games and are one of the hottest teams in the league. The Pelicans pitching staff is performing at a high level as they are ranked second in the league with a 3.44 team ERA. Rusty Begnaud has been lights out for Pensacola, he is the only three game winner on the club and is fourth in the league with a 1.42 ERA. The Pelicans also boast the top two hitters in the league with Trino Aguilar batting .411 and Tim Dorn hitting .396.

El Paso sits in fourth place in the Southern Division and have won only two out of their last ten games. Their best hitter, and last years Central League MVP, Juan Camacho was signed by the Chicago White Sox organization last week and the team has been hurting without him.

The Pelicans swept the Diablos in Pensacola last week, scoring 11 runs in back-to-back games and shutting out the Diablos on the 24th. The three wins capped a six game winning streak for the Pelicans, propelling them into contention in the Southern Division. This will be Pensacola's first of three trips to El Paso the Pelicans will make this season, including a six game series in July.
