St. Joseph Blacksnakes News Release

St. Joseph, MO-The Blacksnakes (5-15) let an eighth inning lead slip away and fell to Lincoln (16-3), 3-2 in 11 innings. It was the first extra inning affair for the team this season.

St. Joe struck right away as Scooter Jordan doubled to start the home first and scored on a Mark Burke single for a 1-0 lead. The 'Snakes would add another in the fifth. Ben Thomas doubled and was sacrificed to third. Josh Buhagiar walked to put runners on the corners. Jordan then grounded a ball that the second baseman Josh Patton tried to turn into a double play but lost the ball for an error, and Thomas scored for a 2-0 advantage. That looked like it would hold up until the eighth.

Lincoln used three walks to load the bases with two outs when Jay Yaconetti's grounder was muffed by second baseman Jake Whitesides, and two runs scored to tie the game as Jose Torres hustled all the way around from second.

That would send us to extra innings and both teams stranded men in scoring position before a leadoff walk in the top of the 11th gave Lincoln a chance. Then Josh Patton rolled one up the third base line and Matt Johnson's errant throw put runners at second and third with nobody out. One out later, Paul Powell delivered a sacrifice fly for the winning run.

St. Joe starter Andrew Edwards left the game after just three innings due to an injury and seven 'Snakes hurlers took the hill all told. They combined to walk 12 batters, and Matt Johnson (0-2) suffered the loss.

Lincoln stranded a season-high 18 men on base while St. Joe left 11 in a game of missed chances.
