A strong pitching performance by Cory Walters and a terrific day at the plate by SS Marc Mirizzi carries Fort Worth to a win over Pensacola. Walters was sensational going seven innings giving up only one run on three hits with nine strikeouts. Mirizzi at the plate was 3-for-4 with one run scored and four runs driven in. Fort Worth would score nine of their ten runs in the fourth inning and never look back. DH Larry Bethea was the star for the Pelicans today as he went 1-for-4 including hitting his third home run of the season. Pensacola starting pitcher Clark Girardeau only went 3 1/3 innings allowing seven runs on nine hits in the losing effort.

Lincoln 5, St. Joe 1

Lincoln DH Brett Cooley was 2-for-5 with his fifth home run, a pair of runs scored and three RBIs to lead the Saltdogs at the plate. On the mound, Lindsay Gulin allowed seven hits through seven solid innings of work to get his fourth win of the year. Gulin, who is undefeated, surrendered just one run and struck out seven in the game. 1B Pichi Balet and LF Paul Powell each had two hits for Lincoln. The Saltdogs were able to put together a rally in the fourth inning to score two runs on two hits to build a 3-1 lead, an advantage that they would never relinquish. They added two more runs in the seventh en route to closing out their league-high 15th win.

Sioux City 10, Sioux Falls 9

The Explorers were led yet again by LF Jorge Moreno at the plate. Moreno hit two home runs in the game, to bring his season total to eight, and he finished the day 2-for-5 with three runs scored and a pair of RBIs. 1B Dan Meier and RF Kevin Henry also had a homer each and drove in three runs apiece to help the Sioux City outlast the Canaries by a run in extra innings. The Explorers had what looked like a comfortable 9-2 lead heading into the home half of the fifth. But the Canaries then rallied for three runs in that inning and two more in the sixth to tie the game and force the extra frame. Moreno reached on a fielder's choice in the 10th and promptly stole second to move into scoring position. After a wild pitch advanced him to third, he scored on a Ryan Gripp single that would eventually land the Explorers their 10th win.

Coastal Bend 4, Shreveport 1

In what was truly a pitcher's duel, Coastal Bend and Shreveport remained scoreless until the 10th inning until the Aviators managed to produce a run without letting the ball leave the infield. In the bottom half of the 10th DH Chad Gambill got a two-out, RBI single to keep Shreveport alive until the 12th when Coastal Bend put the game away with three runs. Aviators starting pitcher Ricky Stover allowed just three hits through seven innings and struck out four. T.J. Hendricks scattered nine hits through eight for the Sports and struck out three. Neither figured in the decision. The win for Coastal Bend keeps them atop the standings in the North Division.
