The Myrtle Beach Pelicans flipped Tuesday's 8-1 loss into a 7-2 victory on Wednesday night as they took down the Fayetteville Woodpeckers. 11 of their 14 hits were singles as the Pelicans moved back to .500 at 46-46 on the season. The Woodpeckers dropped to 40-51 with the loss in the second game of the series.

Two players collected three-hit games as Kevin Made (3-5, 2B, RBI) and Ezequiel Pagan (3-4, 3B, 2 R) led the offensive effort. Both Yohendrick Pinango (2-4, 2B, 2 RBI) and Ed Howard (1-4, 2 RBI) tallied multiple RBIs in the victory. The Birds left just seven runners on base while going 7-18 with runners in scoring position.

The win went to Tyler Schlaffer (1-3) after he logged his first quality start of the season with just one earned run off six hits through his six innings of work. He also struck out four while only walking one. Bailey Reid threw two scoreless innings in relief with four strikeouts, while Riley Martin made his Pelicans debut by striking out two of three batters in the final frame.

Two Woodpeckers posted multi-hit games with Justin Williams (2-4) and Adonis Giron (2-4, 2B) leading the lineup. Nerio Rodriguez (1-4, RBI) and Quincy Hamilton (0-3, RBI) brought home the only runs for the home team.

Fayetteville's starting pitcher Heitor Tokar (0-2) took his second loss of the year with six hits allowed and four earned runs through six innings of work. Carlos Hiraldo gave up three earned runs off five hits in two innings out of the bullpen.

Myrtle Beach jumped out in front with a three-run second inning. Jonathan Sierra led off with a single and Jacob Wetzel hit a single with one out to put runners on first and second. Pinango hit a single on a grounder to right that scored Sierra and put the Birds in front first. Pinango advanced to second on a wild pitch and both runners scored on a Howard single to right for a 3-0 lead.

The Woodpeckers posted their first run in the bottom of the fourth as Will Wagner lined a single up the middle to start the inning. On a pickoff attempt, Wagner got to second on a throwing error by Schlaffer and moved to third on a wild pitch. Hamilton hit a sacrifice fly to left field to score Wagner to make it a 3-1 game.

Pagan led off the fifth with a triple into the corner in right field. He crossed home two batters later as Made looped a single to left to extend the lead.

Fayetteville cut into the Pelicans lead with a run in the bottom of the sixth. Wagner drew a one-out walk and Jordan Brewer followed with a single. Two batters later, Rodriguez grounded a single up the middle to score Wagner and make it a 4-2 ballgame.

The Pelicans closed it out with two runs in the seventh and one in the eighth. With two outs and runners on first and second, Jordan Nwogu smacked a liner to left for a single that scored a run. The Birds loaded the bases and Pablo Aliendo singled up the middle to score one run, but Nwogu was thrown out at the plate trying to score the second run.

In the eighth, Wetzel led off with a single and moved over to third on two wild pitches by Hiraldo. He was hit in by Pinango on a double to extend the lead to 7-2.

With the series tied one game apiece, the Pelicans will meet the Woodpeckers on Thursday night at 6:30 p.m. for game three.
