Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release

Mike Pelfrey struck out 11 in seven innings and seven different Binghamton Mets players picked up hits, leading the B-Mets to a 6-4 victory over the New Hampshire Fisher Cats at NYSEG Stadium Saturday. The B-Mets have taken the first two of the series from the Fisher Cats, winning for the third time in four games.

New Hampshire (36-43) got on the board first. Pelfrey walked Ron Davenport with one out in the fourth and, two batters later, issued a two-out free pass to Chip Cannon. Manny Mayorson followed with a single up the middle for a 1-0 Fisher Cats lead. That was the only run Pelfrey (4-2) would allow, as he yielded just two hits to win for the fourth time in five starts.

In the bottom of the fourth, the B-Mets (36-44) took the lead for good. Ricky Romero began the frame by walking Wilson Batista and Jorge Padilla before Michel Abreu doubled to center, scoring both for a 2-1 B-Mets lead. Two batters later, Carlos Gomez drove in Abreu with a broken-bat bloop base-hit to center. After Gomez was forced out on a fielder's choice that allowed Ambiorex Concepcion to reach, Corey Ragsdale reached Romero (0-1) for a two-run homer to center, putting Binghamton up 5-1.

Binghamton picked up another run in the seventh with three straight two-out singles by Rashad Eldridge, Batista and Padilla, with the latter hit scoring Eldridge for a 6-1 advantage. After Adam Lind hit a two-run homer in the eighth to pull New Hampshire within 6-3, Henry Owens hit Erik Kratz and gave up a single to Chip Cannon, starting the ninth with runners at the corners and nobody out. However, Mayorson bounced into a double play that scored Kratz and Owens was able to hold on for his 11th save in as many chances. Sunday, the B-Mets play the third game of their four-game series with the New Hampshire Fisher Cats. Robert Paulk (3-2, 2.94) will start for Binghamton against Jesse Litsch, who will be making his Fisher Cats debut. Game time is 1:30 from NYSEG Stadium with the Horizons Federal Credit Union Pre-Game Show kicking off the broadcast at 1:15 on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.
