
Payton II Locks in Triple-Double as Vipers Win Big against Suns

EDINBURG, Texas (Feb. 5, 2019) - The Rio Grande Valley Vipers (23-12) cruise past the Northern Arizona Suns (7-30), 123-106. Michael Frazier knocks down 34 points, Gary Payton ll earns first triple-double of the season for the Vipers.
The Vipers were powered by Frazier as he scored 13 points, nine of which came from beyond the arc, in the first. The Suns quickly found themselves trailing after one quarter of action, 33-23. Payton ll totaled four assists in the quarter. Two-way player, George King, was the lead scorer at this point for the Suns with 11 points, four rebounds.
More of the same continued for RGV as they secured the halftime lead, 61-53. The largest lead for the Vipers was 16 points as they opened up on offense. Frazier closed out the half with 15 points, two rebounds. Houston Rockets assignee, Gary Clark, was able to tally 11 points before heading to the break.
Peter Jok joined offensively for the Suns, tallying 10 points, two rebounds. King continued to help Northern Arizona keep pace, totaling 13 individual points, five rebounds, three assists. The Suns were limited to under 38% in the half from the field.
It didn't get any easier for the Suns at Bert Ogden Arena as the Vipers began to pull away. The key piece for RGV was Payton lI, who was on fire with a triple-double by the third period. His 11 points, 10 rebounds, and 12 assists crowned him player of the game.
RGV closed out their spectacular performance tonight on top 123-106. Six players hit double-digits in points scored for the Vipers. Frazier closed out his night with an astounding 34 points, four rebounds, three assists. Additionally, Frazier shot 8-14 from the arc. Payton II's final stat line was 11 points, 12 rebounds, 14 assists. He hit a season-high in assists as well. Clark tallied 18 points in 34 minutes of action on the court. Birthday boy, Chris McCullough, drained 19 points and gathered seven assists.
As expected, the night closed out on a high note for Suns two-way player King who tallied 26 points, eight rebounds, five assists. Retin Obasohan racked up 19 points as he crept past Jok for second highest points scored on the court. As mentioned, Jok was another contributor to the Northern Arizona offense, ending with 13 points, seven rebounds, four assists.
