Payano Puzzles Hooks But Riders Drop Series Opener

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - A great pitching performance from Pedro Payano fell short Monday night in Corpus Christi, as the RoughRiders fell 6-4 in walk-off fashion to the Hooks.

SYNOPSIS

* Payano logged 6 1/3 innings, yielding two runs on three hits. He opened the night with six scoreless innings and faced the minimum in that span.

* The Riders took a 2-0 lead in the fourth and broke a 2-2 tie with a pair of runs in the eighth, but Corpus Christi scored four runs in the final two frames, capped by a walk-off homer from Chuckie Robinson in the ninth, to take the series opener.

* Pedro Payano: 6 1/3 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 4 K

* Christian Lopes: 3-for-5, 2B

* Andretty Cordero: 1-for-4, 2 RBI, R

* With two RBIs Monday, Andretty Cordero brought his season total to 14, which moves him into a tie for the league lead.

* Christian Lopes has seven hits in his last three games.
