Norfolk Tides News Release
Pawtucket's Jonathan Van Every hit a solo homer in the top of the 10th inning, powering the Pawsox to a 2-1 win over the Tides in front of 8,784 fans at Harbor Park Saturday night.
The win for the Red Sox snapped Norfolk's eight-game win streak, which was the longest for the Tides since 1993.
Van Every, who singled and scored Pawtucket's first run in the third inning, launched a high drive off of Jim Miller (2-3) over the right field fence with one out in the 10th inning for his 23rd homer of the season. Pawsox reliever Michael Tejera then worked around a leadoff single in the bottom half of the frame to earn his second save of the year.
The Tides plated their lone run of the contest in the 7th inning, as Oscar Salazar led off the frame with a single and came around to score on a triple by Luis Terrero. Pawtucket starter David Pauley escaped further damage in the inning, however, as he retired three straight Tides batters to strand Terrero on third base and keep the game knotted at 1-1.
Making his fifth start since being activated from the disabled list on June 22, Tides starter Hayden Penn allowed a run on three hits in 3.1 innings of work. Penn labored through his outing, as he threw 90 pitches, 53 of which were strikes.
Ryan Bukvich relieved Penn and allowed just one hit over 3.2 scoreless innings, and Kam Mickolio followed with two perfect innings of relief.
The Tides and Pawsox will square off again Sunday night in the finale of the four-game set. Craig Anderson (2-7, 7.88) will take the mound for Norfolk against Pawtucket knuckleballer Charlie Zink (10-2, 2.28), with first pitch from Harbor Park slated for 6:15. The game will be televised live on WSKY-TV in Hampton Roads, and will also be broadcast live on MASN.
