Ft. Mill, SC - The Richmond Braves beat the Charlotte Knights 12-8 Saturday at Knights Stadium. The Braves hit double figures in the run column for the second time this season to snap a three game losing streak.
The Braves exploded for four runs in the first inning and led the rest of the way. Brandon Jones knocked in a run with a fielder's choice. Diory Hernandez doubled a run in and Clint Sammons chased two home with a single. Barbaro Canizares smacked a home run in the third to push the Braves lead to 5-0. The Braves added three runs in the fifth. Carl Loadenthal and Jones knocked in runs with doubles. Jones scored on a double play ball. Charlotte breached the scoreboard in the sixth inning on a solo home run by Nicholas Blasi. David Cook homered in the seventh to ignite a three run Charlotte rally. The Knights took advantage of an error and a wild pitch to add two runs and cut the Braves lead to 8-4. Richmond tacked on two more in the eighth on a solo home run by Hernandez and an RBI single by Loadenthal. In the ninth Sammons singled a run home and Enrique Cruz knocked one in with a sacrifice fly to give the Braves a 12-4 advantage. In the home half Blasi knocked in a run with a single and Danny Richar drilled a three run homer to cap the scoring.
Chuck James earned the win. Lance Broadway took the loss. Hernandez, Sammons, and Josh Anderson had three hits each for the Braves. Blasi, Richar, and Noah Hall had two hits each for the Knights.
The Braves wrap up the pre-All Star Break portion of the schedule Sunday vs. the Knights at 12:15 at Knights Stadium. Brian Lawrence is slated to pitch for the Braves against Tomo Ohka.
