Indianapolis Indians News Release
INDIANAPOLIS -- A double by second baseman Michael Hollimon and single by right fielder Timo Perez gave Toledo the only run it would need in a 1-0, rain-shortened win over Indianapolis in front of 11,860 Saturday night at Victory Field.
The Mud Hens improve to 55-42 overall and 26-19 on the road, while the Indians fall to 44-53 on the season and 23-27 at home. The win was Toledo's sixth straight and its ninth in 14 games against Indianapolis this year.
Hollimon roped a two-bagger down the left-field line with one out in the first and came around to score on Perez's base knock to center.
The Mud Hens collected four hits in the five-inning affair. 3B Mike Hessman added a double in the first and SS Max Leon contributed a single in the second.
CF Nyjer Morgan, SS Brian Bixler and 2B Josh Wilson registered singles for Indianapolis.
LHP Tom Gorzelanny (3.0 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 3 SO), who was making his first start for the Indians since being optioned from Pittsburgh on July 8, was pinned with the loss.
Toledo RHP Chris Lambert (5.0 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 4 SO) improved to 9-5 with the win.
Play was interrupted at 8:21 p.m. due to heavy rain in central Indiana and the clubs never returned to the field. The game was officially called at 10:05 p.m.
The teams wrap up their four-game series on Sunday at 2 p.m. RHP Zach Miner is scheduled to start for Toledo, while RHP Jimmy Barthmaier is expected to get the nod for Indianapolis.
The contest will be carried by WXLW-950 AM and www.IndyIndians.com with Howard Kellman and Scott McCauley. The pre-game show begins at 1:40 p.m.
It will be another Souvenir Sunday at Victory Field as the first 4,000 fans receive an Indians Cooler courtesy of Ivy Tech Community College. Gates open at 12:30 p.m.
