Durham Bulls News Release

DURHAM, NC - The Bulls saw a five-run lead over the Rochester Red Wings slip away in the ninth inning, then came back twice to tie the game only to lose in the 13th by a score of 9-8 Saturday at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park.

Scott Dohmann came on for the Bulls in the top of the ninth inning only to give up six runs on five hits and a walk, a rally culminating with a grand slam by former Bull Jason Pridie to put the Red Wings up 7-6. Dan Johnson singled home Fernando Perez to tie score in the bottom of the frame, only to fall behind again after a Pride solo blast in the eleventh. Once again, Johnson brought home Perez to tie the game at eight apiece. That tally that held until Rochester pushed across what proved to be the deciding run in the top of the 13th inning.

Tim Lahey (5-5, 5.17) got the wins in two innings of three-hit, scoreless relief; Kurt Birkins (2-2, 5.19) lost, giving up a run on one hit.

Both leadoff hitters put on a tremendous display on the evening: Pridie was 4-for-7 with two home runs, five runs batted in, three scored and two stolen bases, and Durham's Fernando Perez was 6-for-7 with two runs scored.

The Bulls will look to even the four-game series with the Red Wings at two games apiece Sunday at 5:05 p.m. at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park. In a battle of left-handers, Durham's Mike Prochaska (2-4, 6.86) will oppose Rochester's Brian Duensing (5-9, 4.11).
