Pawtucket Red Sox News Release

Kyle Weiland allowed three runs in the first two innings to Rochester Wednesday night, providing the Red Wings an early cushion en route to their 4-1 victory.

Weiland settled down to allow just one more run over the final four innings of his outing, but picked up his tenth loss of the season. His record stands at 8-10 and his ERA rises to 3.58 after allowing four runs in 6.0 innings of work.

In his final game of a two-game rehab assignment with the PawSox, Kevin Youkilis homered in his final at-bat. The solo shot came with two outs in the ninth inning and cut the Rochester lead to 4-2, but Ryan Lavarnway followed with a groundout to end the ballgame and Pawtucket was never able to get the tying run to the plate in the ninth inning.

Rochester sent 22-year old starting pitcher Liam Hendriks. Hendriks, who improved his record to 4-4 with the victory, pitched eight inning of one-run baseball. He scattered three hits and allowed his only run of the ballgame in the fifth inning on a sacrifice fly by Nate Spears to score Daniel Nava. Hendriks needed just 95 pitches to cruise through his outing.

One night after taking Game One of a two-game series 8-6, Rochester refused to allow Pawtucket to inch their way closer to the organization's first playoff berth since taking the I.L. Wild Card in 2008. Lehigh Valley lost to Scranton Wilkes-Barre to reduce Pawtucket's magic number to win the I.L. North Division Title to two. Pawtucket leads Lehigh Valley by 2.0 games with four games remaining in the season.

Pawtucket will have a day-off Thursday before commencing the final homestand of the regular season Friday. Pawtucket and Scranton Wilkes-Barre will battle Friday and Saturday before Pawtucket and Rochester square-off Sunday and Monday. Friday's first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
