PawSox Sweep Chiefs with 4-1 Win

The Pawsox took game two from Syracuse, 4-1 Sunday afternoon at McCoy Stadium. Clay Buchholz went two and a third innings, gave up one hit and struck out two as he continues his rehab assignment since being put on Boston's DL June 20th. Nate Spears hit a 2-run homerun, J.C. Linares and Ryan Lavarnway each had an RBI.

In the second inning, Andy LaRoche was hit by a pitch and scored from first on a triple (2) by Linares. The PawSox took the lead, 1-0 over the Chiefs. Ellsbury singled in the third inning, advanced to third on a single by Jose Iglesias and scored on a single by Lavarnway to extend the lead, 2-0.

Linares doubled (4) in the fourth inning and scored on Spears' 2-run blast. The Pawsox led 4-0. Syracuse got on the board in the fifth after Seth Bynum led off with a single, advanced to second on a ground-out and scored on a RBI single by Jarrett Hoffpauir, to trail the PawSox 4-1.

Brandon Duckworth (8-2) earned the win for the PawSox. He gave up six hits, one run and struck out two in 4.2 innings. For Syracuse, Yunesky Maya (6-7) took the loss. Pitched seven innings, gave up nine hits, four runs and one homerun.

The PawSox take three days off for the Triple-A All-Star break before returning to McCoy stadium. Thursday July 12, the PawSox host Buffalo at 7:05 pm as they begin an 8-game homestand. Doug Mathis (6-6, 4.05) faces Jeremy Hefner (4-2, 2.50).
