PawSox Put Down the Pigs, 7-1

The PawSox defeated the IronPigs in game one 7-1 Friday night at McCoy Stadium. Mauro Gomez went 2-4 with a homerun. The PawSox have sole possession of first place after Scranton loss 2-0 to Indianapolis tonight.

PawSox took the lead 2-0 over the IronPigs in the first inning after J.C. Linares' double (7) that scored Jose Iglesias who led off with a walk and Andy LaRoche who doubled (14).

In the fourth Mauro Gomez led off with a single and scored on an RBI single by Reynaldo Rodriguez and led 3-0. The PawSox added two more runs after two throwing errors by the Lehigh catcher and the first baseman to extend their lead 5-0 after four innings. Gomez hit a solo homerun (21) and the PawSox extended their lead to 6-0 in the fifth. RBI sac fly by Jon Hee made it 7-0 over Lehigh in the sixth.

Lehigh Valley got on the board in the ninth with a solo homerun by Hector Luna. The IronPigs trailed the PawSox 7-1.

Billy Buckner earned the win for the PawSox after giving up four hits in six innings and one batter. David Purcey took the loss for the IronPigs. He gave up two hits and two runs in two innings.

Gomez, Linares and Thomas each had two hits for the PawSox.

The series continues tomorrow at 7:05 pm. Nelson Figueroa (8-3, 3.83) faces Jonathan Pettibone (0-0, 3.60).
