
Indians Stay Hot and Take Down Yankees 2-0

Rochester, NY - For the second straight night a solid pitching effort from the Indianapolis Indians (70-44) doomed the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees (61-51). On Friday night it was left-hander Jeff Locke who kept the Yankees in check, tossing 7 1/3 innings of shutout baseball and adding 10 strikeouts to lead Indianapolis to a 2-0 shutout victory in game two of a four game series at Frontier Field in Rochester, NY.
The pitchers duel ended in the top half of the sixth when the Indianapolis Indians scored the games first run. Mike O'Connor issued a lead off walk to Anderson Hernandez. O'Connor was then replaced by Cory Wade, who got Chase d"Arnaud to pop out to Kevin Russo at third on a failed bunt attempt. Hernandez then moved over to second on a wild pitch and Jose Tabata drew a leadoff walk, giving the Indians runners on first and second with just one out. Matt Hague then cashed in Hernandez with an RBI single to left, allowing Tabata go from first to third with still just one out in the inning. Later in the inning, Jeff Clement roped a sacrifice fly to right, allowing Tabata to score from third making it a 2-0 ball game and completing the scoring from both teams for the night.
O'Connor suffered the loss in just his ninth start on the bump for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre this season. With the loss the Yankees left-hander fell to 2-6 on the season He allowed just one run on two hits, while striking out five and walking two over 5 1/3 innings on the bump. Justin Thomas was terrific in relief for the Yankees as he pitched a scoreless eighth inning, while Preston Claiborne matched his predecessor with a scoreless ninth. With the win Locke improved to 9-5 and allowed just three hits and two walks. Tim Wood picked up the save for Indianapolis with a scoreless ninth inning.
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and Indianapolis continue their four game series at Frontier Field Saturday evening at 7:05. John Maine (4-3, 5.90) gets the nod for the Yankees, while southpaw Justin Wilson (8-5, 4.04) takes the ball for the Indians.
