PawSox Erupt for Five Runs in the Ninth to Win

The first 7 men reached base for the PawSox in the top of the ninth inning on Wednesday afternoon in Georgia, en route to a 9-4 win over the Gwinnett Braves. The Sox scored 5 runs, snapping a 4-4 tie. In all, ten men came to the plate. After a lead single by Ivan DeJesus, Tony Thomas walked. Consecutive singles by Danny Valencia, Andy LaRoche and Jason Repko produced runs. Jon Hee added an RBI single and Jeremy Hazelbaker knocked in the final run with a ground out. Hazelbaker also had an RBI hit in the sixth. DeJesus had 4 hits. Thomas was a star, with an RBI triple and a two run home run. Valencia, Repko and Hee all had two hits apiece.

Steven Wright logged 5 innings, but didn't figure in the decision. Josh Fields tossed a pair of scoreless innings of relief and Rich Hill continued his ML rehab with a shutout eighth. Hill (1-0) earned the win. Alex Wilson shut down Gwinnett in the ninth inning.

The PawSox (75-63) tighten their grasp on the Wild Card spot, up two games over Lehigh Valley with 6 remaining on the schedule. The Iron Pigs play Wednesday night against the first place Yankees.

Pawtucket and the Braves are scheduled to play a doubleheader on Thursday night at 5:05 p.m. Those are the final 2 road games of the 2012 season for the PawSox.
