Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
Down to their final six games of the regular season, the IronPigs (73-65) play Game One of a two-game "road" series against the first-place Scranton/WB Yankees (81-57) at Coca-Cola Park... With a 5-4 loss on Monday, the Pigs dropped back-to-back games and fell to a 1.5 games behind Pawtucket in the Wild Card race (now 2.0 games). The Pigs have gone just 21-29 since July 7 -- going from a season-high 3.0 games up to a season-high 8.0 games back in the North... Scranton -- the Yankees' top affiliate -- has now won 11 of its last 12 games and has gone 18-5 in its last 23 affairs. In fact, since the All-Star Break (July 12), the Yanks boast a 32-14 record -- going from third and 4.0 GB to first and 8.0 GA. The Yankees clinch the North with either a win or a Pawtucket loss.
RHP Scott Elarton (5-11, 5.48) will start for LHV against LHP Mike O'Connor (3-6, 3.78).
Tonight is Prostate Cancer Awareness Night, presented by Urology Specialists of the Lehigh Valley... First-Pitch is at 7:05 p.m.
MI COCA SU COCA...:
SWB will be the home team again tonight at Coca-Cola Park... Even though they lack a true home field in 2012, the Yankees have
gone 40-28 at "home" this season... This includes a 4-2 record at Coca-Cola Park this season (April 26-29, July 6-5). All-time, SWB is 5-3 as the home team at CCP (SWB "hosted" for 2 games 7/9/09-7/10/09 due to field conditions and went 1-1)...
* Oddly, SWB was just 34-38 at home (PNC Field) and 39-31 on the road last season.
AVOIDED THE CLOYD!:
Tonight's originally scheduled starter, RHP Tyler Cloyd, had his contract purhased by Philadelphia today and will make his ML debut vs. NYM tonight filling in for LHP Cole Hamels (gastrointestinal illness)... Cloyd leaves the Pigs as their all-time winningest pitcher in a single-season (12) and ranking 1st in the IL in ERA (2.35), T-2nd in wins (12), 1st in WHIP (1.01), 2nd in OBA (.210).
* Overall, he's gone a combined 15*-1, 2.26^ (167.0/42) in 26 GS -- ranking *1st in wins & ^6th in ERA in all full-season MiLB.
* RHP Scott Elarton will make the start in Cloyd's place, as he's been activated off the D.L. after missing 8 G (left hamstring).
