PawSox Complete Sweep with 14-9 Win

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA. -- Awakening early for a 10:35 a.m. start on Thursday, the Pawtucket Red Sox looked anything but lethargic in completing a series sweep of the Gwinnett Braves with a 14-9 triumph in front of 8,878 at Coolray Field.
Seven PawSox had at least two hits, five scored twice and four drove in multiple runs in a 16-hit onslaught in support of right-handed knuckleballer Steven Wright (W, 2-1). Pawtucket has won four straight games for the first time since April 11-14, while Gwinnett has lost 12 in a row.
The Sox scored in each of the first five innings in building a 10-2 lead. For the third time in the four days, Mark Hamilton gave them a first-inning edge, delivering a sacrifice fly to score Jose Iglesias. The RBI was one of Hamilton's seven for the series, four of which he supplied in the opening frame.
Jeremy Hazelbaker doubled home a pair in the 2nd inning and scored to make it 4-0, following his steal of third and a throwing error by catcher Matt Kennelly. After Kennelly reached right-hander Steven Wright for a two-run homer in the next half inning to close the gap to 4-2, Hamilton replied in the third with his fourth home run of 2013.
In the fourth, starter Roman Colon (L, 0-2) gave way to reliever Cole McCurry and the PawSox scored five runs on six hits, including three doubles. Ryan Lavarnway, Hamilton and Brandon Snyder accounted for five of the RBI with an extra-base hit apiece. Iglesias also singled in a run, helping to expand the advantage to eight.
Gwinnett pulled within, 10-4, with a single tally in the fourth and fifth innings, but Snyder expanded the lead with his team-leading seventh homer, a two-run blast in the front half of the sixth.
Another Braves' rally, a four-run sixth off reliever Chris Carpenter, reduced Pawtucket's lead to 12-8, before Bryce Brentz homered and Hazelbaker produced an RBI single in the ninth.
Wright worked the first 5.0 innings, surrendering three earned runs and striking out six, for his first victory since April 9.
NOTES: Ronald Bermudez went 6-for-9 with two doubles, two RBI and three runs scored the last two games...Mark Hamilton concluded the series 6-for-15 with two HR and seven RBI...The PawSox went 9-for-15 with runners in scoring position Thursday, while the Braves were 4-for-21 with 11 left on base...Pawtucket continues its South Division road swing with a four-day series at Charlotte, scheduled to begin at 7:15 on Friday, when Graham Godfrey (1-2, 4.50) opposes Simon Castro (0-4, 4.72).
