Pavlik Tosses Shutout Innings in New Jersey's 2-0 Win

August 7, 2012 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
Worcester Tornadoes News Release

Isaac Pavlik limited the Worcester Tornadoes to three hits and a pair of walks in eight innings as the New Jersey Jackals beat the visitors 2-0 at Yogi Berra Stadium on Tuesday night.

The diminutive lefty notched 11 strikeouts against the Tornadoes' hitters en route to his ninth win of the season. Keith Cantwell avenged his loss to Cam Kneeland and Worcester from last week by pitching a scoreless ninth for his 12th save.

(In addition to his walk-off two-run home run from the last series at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field, Kneeland also had the game-winning grand slam in Monday's come-from-behind 5-4 victory for the Tornadoes.)

Kevin Cooper threw six innings of two-run ball, but was dealt the loss in the middle game of the three-game set. Cooper struck three batters out, including two in a row in his only perfect inning (the fifth), walking four batters and giving up six hits.

The first run of the game came in the bottom of the first, when Matt Cusick doubled Bryan Sabatella home. Angel Berroa added his 14th home run of the season in the third inning to double the Jackals' lead and cap the scoring for the evening.

Ryan Brockett had two of Worcester's four hits, while Alex Nunez had one and Chris Torres the other (to reach base in the ninth).

Kyle Regnault was the only Worcester reliever used, garnering two innings and striking out two New Jersey hitters (along with allowing two hits).

The rubber game of the series is an 11:05am contest between Walker McKinven and Kyle Greenwalt. Tornadoes Pre-Game Live on USTREAM.tv starts at 10:50.
