New Jersey Jackals News Release

Brockton, MA - Isaac Pavlik struck out a season high nine batters, but the New Jersey offense struggled as the Jackals fell to the Brockton Rox 6-2 on Monday night at Campanelli Stadium. The win gave Brockton the sweep of the four-game series as the Jackals finish the 2008 season with a 43-51 record, including a 18-29 mark in the second half.

Greg Bunn (3-5) started for the Rox and earned the win, allowing two runs on four hits in six innings while striking out eight and walking three. Pavlik (8-7) surrendered four runs - three earned - on seven hits in seven innings to take the loss.

The Jackals opened up the scoring in the top of the second inning as they took a 2-0 lead. 1B Juan Tejeda led off with a double and scored two batters later on an RBI single by LF Andrew Larsen. Later in the inning, 2B Marcus Sanders hit a bases-loaded dribbler down the third base line which remained in fair territory, allowing Larsen to score from third as the Jackals took a 2-0 lead. However, Brockton fired back in the bottom of the inning as an RBI single by CF Eugene Julien and a two-run triple off the bat of 2B Melvin Falu gave the Rox a 3-2 advantage after two innings of play.

Brockton added an unearned run in the bottom of the seventh inning to take a 4-2 lead. Following a leadoff infield single by C Joe McGee, Falu grouned to short but New Jersey SS Bryant Nelson bobbled and threw the ball away. The play, which resulted in Nelson being charged with two errors, placed runners on the corners with no outs. SS Dominic Ramos followed by lifting a sacrifice fly to plate McGee. The Rox added a pair of insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth inning when LF Jud Thigpen connected on a two-run home run, his Rox-record 17th of the season, to give Brockton a 6-2 lead which they hung on to as reliever David Pelligrine hurled two perfect innings to earn his first save of the season.

The New Jersey Jackals, proud members of the Canadian-American Association of Professional Baseball, play their home games at Yogi Berra Stadium located on the campus of Montclair State University in Little Falls, NJ. Visit the Jackals online at www.jackals.com.
