
Granato, Galvez Stockpiling the Hardware

DURHAM, NC - The official statistician of the Can-Am League, PA SportsTicker, has selected Atlantic City Surf SS Anthony Granato and Sussex Skyhawks RHP Gary Galvez as the Teamline Direct Batter and Pitcher of the Week and the B45 August Players of the Month.
In eight games this past week, Granato batted .563 with five home runs, 11 RBI and a slugging percentage of 1.156. The Canada native pounded out 18 hits, scored 13 runs, stole three bases and had a .632 on-base percentage. For the month, the Surf infielder had a batting average of .391 with 11 home runs and 31 runs batted in. He plated 35 runs, collected 45 hits, slugged .765 and had an on-base percentage of.478.
Granato on the season is batting .321 with 14 home runs, 62 RBI and 115 hits. The 27-year-old is among the league leaders in six major offensive categories. He is second in the Can-Am League in stolen bases (30), extra base hits (46) and runs scored (82), third in doubles (28) and fourth in on-base percentage (.429) and triples (4). Granato was signed as a nondrafted free agent by the Chicago Cubs in June of 2004.
Galvez hurled eight shutout innings in the 3-1 victory over the New Jersey Jackals this past Wednesday. He allowed only one walk and three hits while striking out seven batters. Galvez for the month was a perfect 3-0 in five starts with a 1.45 ERA. In 31 innings pitched, he gave up five earned runs, five walks and 19 hits while punching out 28 hitters.
The Cuba native is 5-5 on the year with a 4.70 ERA in 15 starts. He has walked 25 batters and struck out 71 in 92 innings pitched. Galvez was signed as a nondrafted free agent in 2003 by the Boston Red Sox. He spent four seasons in the Boston farm system before joining Brockton and North Shore last season.
