Wilmington Blue Rocks News Release

Wilmington, DE - The Carolina League announced on Monday that Wilmington Blue Rocks hurler Bryan Paukovits has been named the league's Pitcher of the Week for the period ranging from July 19-25. It marks the eighth time in 2010 a Rock has been honored by the league office. Michael Montgomery, Alex Caldera and John Lamb have all been named CL Pitcher of the Week in 2010 as well, with Montgomery grabbing that honor twice in a row to begin the year. Third baseman Jamie Romak took the honor three times during June and July. Three of those men, Montgomery, Caldera and Romak, have earned in-season promotions to Double-A Northwest Arkansas. No other Carolina League team has claimed as many weekly honors as the Blue Rocks.

Paukovits made two starts during the week and was magnificent in both. The right-hander tossed 12 total scoreless innings, holding both the Myrtle Beach Pelicans and the Kinston Indians off the board. On Monday he tossed seven shutout innings in Myrtle Beach, yielding just three hits in the process as he picked up the win. Paukovits lasted five frames on Saturday as he scattered five hits, but did not surrender a single run for another victory. Both wins were team shutouts.

Since being promoted to Wilmington on June 24, the 6-foot-7 240 pound 23-year-old is 3-2 with a 3.73 ERA. His numbers are even stronger if you erase his unsteady Advanced-A debut when Paukovits allowed nine runs in just 2.2 innings pitched to the Frederick Keys on June 27. Since that start he is 3-1 with a 1.57 ERA in five outings.

Paukovits began the season in Low-A with the Burlington Bees. He was named a mid-season CL All-Star as he went 3-3 with a 3.32 earned run average in 13 appearances and nine starts. At the time of his promotion, the La Mesa, CA native was third in the MWL in batting average against at .189.

The Blue Rocks return home tonight for the first of three against the Potomac Nationals. First pitch at Frawley Stadium is set for 7:05 p.m. with gates opening at 6 p.m. It will be "80s Night" at the park. As always, a Mega Deal Monday offer means fans can purchase four reserved tickets, four hot dogs and four sodas for just $40. Offer valid only by purchase at Blue Rocks ticket windows or by calling 302-888-BLUE. All Monday games also allow fans to play Baseball Bingo free of charge.
